The MolinaCares Accord Grants $100,000 to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada to Support the Financial Well-Being of Families

The Molina Cares Accord (“MolinaCares”), in collaboration with Molina Healthcare of Nevada (“Molina”), is announcing a $100,000 grant to Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada (“CCNN”) in support of its Elevating Families program. This initiative provides skills, training, mentorship opportunities, and resources to increase financial wellness among parents and families in Nevada. Through the grant, Molina will cover the cost for 19 families to participate in the program for two years.

The CCNN Elevating Families program helps participating parents secure employment by rebuilding executive functioning skills such as goal setting, managing and prioritizing thoughts and actions, problem solving, and ultimately, achieving their goals. Research shows that individuals with consistent employment are less likely to live in poverty and more likely to be healthy, and economic opportunity is associated with a 16.7% decrease in mortality.

“We are deeply grateful to MolinaCares for its generous support of the Elevating Families program,” said Marie Baxter, CEO of Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada. “This partnership allows us to walk alongside parents as they work to build brighter, more stable futures for their families. With this investment, more families will have access to personalized mentoring, critical resources, and the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty—benefiting not just the parents, but their children and generations to come.”

Using the Economic Mobility Mentoring Method (EMPath) coaching model, Elevating Families assigns participants individualized Mobility Mentors to help parents identify, develop and achieve their goals through motivational interviewing techniques, wellness coaching, money management education, and career training.

“Economic stability is a key non-medical driver of health that helps shape outcomes,” said Rob Baughman, plan president of Molina Healthcare of Nevada. “By providing the infrastructure for families to achieve economic independence, Molina and Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada are addressing factors that improve health and empower Nevadans to build brighter futures.”

The CCNN grant partnership is part of Molina’s and MolinaCares’ 2025 $1.4 million commitment to several community organizations to build stronger, healthier communities across the Silver State.
