PitchBook Recognizes Market-Leading Firms Through Manager Performance Score League Tables

Annual PitchBook awards recognize leading firms, lenders, and service providers across the private and public capital markets

PitchBook, the premiere data provider for the private and public equity markets, today announced the recipients of PitchBook’s 2024 Manager Performance Score League Tables. These rankings, part of PitchBook’s larger annual Global League Table Awards program, leverage proprietary scoring methodology to deliver an objective, data-driven view of performance beyond traditional benchmarks to reveal which managers have outperformed across fund types and global markets.

PitchBook’s Global League Table Awards program highlights market-leading firms, lenders, and service providers who shape the direction of both private and public capital markets. Backed by the industry’s most comprehensive data and research across asset classes, geographies, sectors, strategies, and segments, PitchBook’s rankings deliver a well-informed, unparalleled view of the market landscape. Market participants leverage PitchBook’s League Tables to showcase performance, identify potential partners, and understand competitors and industry disrupters.

“We are proud to recognize the achievements of the 2024 PitchBook Manager Performance Score League Table winners,” said Rod Diefendorf, President & Chief Operating Officer of PitchBook. “PitchBook sets the standard for excellence when it comes to capital market data, research and insights, and our Global League Tables Awards are no exception. For years, PitchBook’s League Tables have been a go-to resource for private and public market participants to understand the competitive landscape and uncover market leaders. The firms that ranked on our League Tables represent the movers and shakers shaping the industry.”

PitchBook’s Manager Performance Score League Tables rank private fund managers’ historical track records utilizing proprietary methodologies developed by its Quantitative Research team. The framework allows LPs and GPs to cut through the noise of benchmarking returns and provides a standardized way to identify historically top-performing fund families. Typical benchmarking metrics that scrutinize a fund manager's firm-level performance regardless of asset class can be too wide—and focusing on funds by IRR quartiles across peers can be too blunt. PitchBook’s Manager Performance Scores provide an objective measure of a fund family’s historical returns. The 2024 rankings leverage gold, silver and bronze badges to further enhance the interpretability of the scores. Fund Families in the top 10 percent of performance scores within their strategy receive gold badges, those between the 75th and 90th percentiles receive silver badges, and all fund families with scores above the neutral 50 threshold are awarded bronze badges.

The full list of gold, silver and bronze badge recipient firms can be viewed here. Additional information on methodology can be found below and in PitchBook’s 2024 Manager Performance Score League Tables report.

PitchBook League Table Awards Methodology

Global League Tables and Lending League Tables: PitchBook’s Global League Tables highlight the most active firms and service providers involved in PE, VC, and M&A transactions. Only publicly disclosed transactions are included.

In the PE Lending League Tables, the scope is restricted to lending to Europe and US-headquartered companies in PE transactions and transactions involving PE or formerly PE-backed companies only. In addition, we utilized current financing statuses to help define the scope, restricting all relevant businesses to status tags of PE-backed, PE-backed with an incomplete transaction, and formerly PE-backed.

All league tables are compiled using the count of completed deals for the specified deal type, region and/or other criteria. For the geographical breakouts, all relevant deal types are included in the underlying deals. When specific deal types are broken out in rankings, that is the only exception to all deal types being included and forming the basis of the rankings. Unless otherwise noted, all eligible deals align with existing PitchBook report methodologies, which can be found here.

Global Manager Performance Score League Tables: Leveraging track record data on thousands of private funds in the PitchBook Platform and our latest Benchmarks data, we rank the historical performance of each manager’s family of funds across vintage years relative to each fund family’s peer groups. More detail on the methodologies used to calculate the Performance Scores can be found here.
